About
the Academy:
The California Academy for Economic Development is a 501(c)3 nonprofit,
a center for training, education, and research in the economic development
field. Managed by the California Association for Local Economic Development,
the Academy’s mission is to:
- Educate ED Professionals, state and local officials, and others about
the critical processes and strategies needed to improve California's
communities and the successes in the global economy
- Conduct supportive research (data development and analysis, modeling,
etc.)
- Strengthen the link between economic development and education, expanding
university and colleges involvement
- Bring the best technologies to the economic development field, making
local professionals more productive
Work Program
During this fiscal year,
the Academy has these major areas of concentration:
- Expand collaboration among the state’s community colleges, workforce
agencies, and economic development organizations
- Work with the other statewide associations, local governments, universities,
and college systems to create a public officials training institute
- Create a new product/service that combines the PAS, LEO, and Strike
Force approaches
- Provide trainers and curricula for entrepreneurship development
- Expand the scope of the Local Elected Officials training, to include
a broader “boot camp” in economic development
- Develop performance indicators and evaluation models for local economic
development programs
- Design and produce the first in a series of Academy “California
Economic Development Issues” papers
- Design and produce a series of Best Practices
- Identify and secure funding to support The Academy’s basic operations
and its Work Plan activities
